House Eleagnus

Project data

Location: Harare, Zimbabwe

House Eleagnus is an upmarket private guest house set in the hills of Glen Lorne outside Harare, Zimbabwe.

Requirements

The guest house has a floor area of 4000 m2. The architectural design featured 9 different columns with mushroom heads of 9000 mm X 5000 mm.  Cantilever beams 2500 mm deep were required to support the swimming pool and a 90-meter-long rim-flow feature with radius-wall overflow. The guest house includes a private chapel with sloping walls. The column shutters were transferred from Cape Town to Harare using four vehicles, including a low bed trailer for the mushroom head.

Customer's benefit

Peri expertise enabled the client to deliver the complex feature column formwork.

House Eleagnus, Harare - Greg Hodges, Director of Construction
Greg Hodges
Director of Construction

PERI was the only South African formwork company who proposed on the feature column formwork. The technical input from the PERI team, together with dialogue between all parties was the only way we managed to achieve the concrete flow from the column into the off-shutter slab soffits, together with the manoeuvrability of the formwork unit which the client expected.

PERI solution

Using the VARIO solution, PERI supplied one box with several bottom extensions to build the 9 different columns. These allowed for different column heights as well as tapered, fluted and sloping 'needle' lower columns. DOMINO lightweight panels were used.  MULTIFLEX Girder Slab Formwork was used for standard support heights, with QUICKSTAGE for heights in excess of 4000mm.
